 "Our Family Caring for Yours

"Our mission is to provide a loving and safe environment for all ages.  A place where the children feel at home and are able to explore and develop at their own pace"

All of our teaching staff receive certification in both first aid and CPR in addition to receiving a minimum of 20 hours of in-service training each year.  our teachers are also required to complete TECTA orientation training, or it's equivalent, during the first 8 months of employment.  In accordance with Tennessee Department of Human Resources, each employee is finger printed and receives a background check through TBI.

Cheekwood Child Development Center does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, physical or mental capabilities in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies and other administrative policies.

We believe that all children deserve love, attention, and nurturing. We believe that a safe environment allows children to explore and grow. At Cheekwood Child Development Center, we allow children to have hands-on learning experiences. This fosters age appropriate development. We read to the children everyday. We believe that positive reinforcement is important for children to develop self-esteem. Children need an environment that supports free expression and stimulates learning. Most importantly, however, we believe that children need to have fun! Children learn best from experiencing the world around them.

Our school was founded on July 1, 1994 and opened with 5 children attending.  We have now grown to over 60 students.  3 families who were dedicated to providing quality childcare within a safe loving environment founded the school.  Our Director, Lisa Travis, is one of the founders and has been here since July 1, 1994.  Ms Travis is a graduate of David Lipscomb University and has her Montessori Degree from the North American Progressive Montessori Institute.  She is also a member of NAEYC.  Our curriculum Supervisor, Dr Louisa Farley or Nana as the children call her, is also one of the founders.  Her Doctorate is in Elementary Education with a Reading Specialty.  She is in charge of overseeing the daily curriculum of the classrooms as well as training new teachers.

about us

We encourage our parents to be involved in our Center.  We have many functions and parties during the year and parents are always invited and welcome to attend.  (Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and friends are welcome too!!)  There is a parent message board located at each room telling of upcoming events and important notices.  We also have a monthly newsletter that will be emailed to you at the beginning of each month.  We offer parent teacher conferences at your request as well as having one group parent meeting each year.  For those of you who would like to help plan the future of the center, we have a Parent Board that meets 3 times a year that you are encouraged to be a part of.  Your suggestions and ideas are important to us.  Please feel free to contact the Director any time.
